I Dreosto in origine Dreost sono presenti in Friuli da oltre cinque secoli.
I primi documenti che riportano questo cognome si riferiscono all'inizio del 1600.
Il primo documento  che ricollega  un Dreosto al nostro ceppo familiare  è un certificato di battesimo datato 1671; 
 
Origini del cognome
 
Il cognome Dreosto, in origine Dreost è tipico di famiglia friulana.  Il significato della parola nasce dal bisogno di identificare una persona come figlio di un individuo. Dall'analisi etimologica, Dreost risulta come derivazione della parola Andrea.
In friulano Andrea si dice e scrive Andree ma comunemente ancora oggi nei nostri paesi  si abbrevia in Dree. Si desume quindi che il figlio di Andrea veniva chiamato dree che poi a seconda dei luoghi e delle consuetudini è divenuto col tempo dreo, dreos, dreost.

Lo stemma della famiglia è rappresentato da uno scudo sannitico a campo rosso con una croce di Sant' Andrea bianca, che ricorda il simbolo di San Daniele del Friuli, dentro alla croce e vi è riportato il motto della casata in latino: Dreost, deus, opera, familia (Dreosto, dio, opera, famiglia).
Al centro dello scudo ci sono tre spighe di grano a ricordare l'originario mestiere di mugnai ma anche a rappresentazione della santissima trinità. In oltre il grano è simbolo di prosperità. In alto vi è l'Aquila il simbolo del Friuli Patria dei Dreosto da oltre cinque secoli.

Prefazione

Quando Simone mi ha informato sulla volontà di ricercare le origini della nostra famiglia, non l'ho dissuaso ed anzi ho ritenuto che questa sua ricerca avrebbe certamente portato alla luce le Nobili origini del nostro Casato.
In effetti, il suo lungo lavoro di certosina ricerca, ha portato a risultati oltremodo insperati!
Le origini sono quelle di Nobili Lavoratori, timorosi di Dio e fedeli agli affetti.
Come noi lo siamo oggi!
Ora, la leggenda che ci voleva di origine meridionale si è spenta come il tramonto sul far della sera e quell'idea di avere una qualche provenienza da Aquaviva delle Fonti, rimane per noi un' amata goliardia del nonno Leo.
A tutti i Dreosto del Nobile Casato, da quello di Guglielmo, che nel lontano 1904 sbarco in Long Island per visitare i parenti d'America, a quella di Luciano che nel 2006 ripetè il viaggio del nonno per visitare i cugini del Canada, invio il mio più sentito ed affettuoso abbraccio fraterno, sempre fedele al nostro glorioso motto: Dio, lavoro, Famiglia.
